i was wondering of the good patrons of macrumours could recommend a good free ftp application.

thanks! 🙂

Built in FTP

At the risk of sounding silly....
Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal

% ftp hostname

I fully agree with Bozola. The terminal FTP is sufficient for much of my FTP needs. However, I don't know if it supports SFTP (which a number of services require). Otherwise, while not "freeware", Fetch is a longstanding Mac FTP client... and can be used even after the trial period expires (just be patient).

-edit-

Ahh, I see terminal has sftp as well. Excellent!

There is ftp as well as sftp on the command line.
If you'd like freeware with a GUI, try Cyberduck.
The very best client, to my opinion, is Transmit, it is not free, though.

I use ftp/sftp in Terminal some times and RBrowser Lite on others. Have applied for an EDU license on Fetch, because I used to have Fetch back in the OS 9 days...
