Saw this article, it made me chuckle... and roll my eyes. Thought I would share.

And it's funny because?

B&H sells computers. They're selling the HP based on the current "hype" of the iPad. That's not funny - it's call smart marketing.

If you find it funny because you're in love with Apple's iPad and anyone that dare infringe or mention or compare a device to it is funny - well then - you're easily amused me thinks

I found it funny because the author of the article is obviously a Apple hater (or at the very least an iPad hater). The article is completely biased... to me that's not good marketing... if that's what they are trying to accomplish. Afterall, B&H also sells Apple products.

"...this convertible has to be one of the more innovative notebooks to come along in some time." To me, this statement says the author is trying to overcompensate to bring attention to a product that really isn't that innovative. The whole article is litered with references to bells and whistles that are pretty standard to notebooks and tablets. Not to mention, notebooks have been turning into tablets for years.

I also don't think this product and the iPad are in the same market, so that makes the comparisons made by the author also funny.

And for the record, I am NOT a iPad lover... I have no plans to buy the current version. I think it does lack some key features. Lack of flash is probably top on my list.

All I said is the article made me chuckle... thought I would share among others who might read the article the same way I did.

11 facts about this amazing computer:

1.) Pinkish table wine
2.) Riptide design
3.) 4.72lbs
4.) 1 inch thick
5.) No bluetooth
6.) No 3g datacard
7.) Windows 7
8.) Norton Internet Security
9.) Preinstalled crapware
10.) TN panel display
11.) $956.95

Ummm, no thanks. Also--comparison at the end to an iPod Touch? Seriously? Saying it's better at showing off multitouch than an iPod Touch. We're through "showing off" multitouch, Windows users. That's so last decade! It isn't brand new to us, but good for you.

Then stating that this, ahem, tablet pc convertable, is somehow superior to the iPad because the iPad has a two inch smaller screen. Wow. Also, Microsoft's multitouch does not equal Apple's multitouch. Just because it is capable doesn't mean it compares.

Using that same argument you could say that an iPad multitasks just as well as any other computer because it can run the iPod and Safari at the same time while downloading and installing an app in the background and then receiving a push notification on top of it all while receiving an email and calendar receiving update that your 12 o'clock meeting has been pushed back to 1pm through exchange. But that still doesn't compare to real multitasking, and neither does HP/Microsoft's multitouch compare to Apple's.

Comparing a $950 Windows device that weighs nearly 5lbs to a $500 Apple device that weighs 1.5lbs just doesn't make sense to me. Its almost like the Microsoft fans are starting to freak out because they can't use the "Apple is more expensive" argument any more. I always wondered what they would say when this day came. Turns out they're still full of crap. Not a surprise.

These devices are for two completely different sets of people.

HP: typical windows user who is buying an actual full sized, full priced computer, regardless of virus software slowing down the system. *shudders at the problems I used to have before I switched two years ago and the problems I still have to fix on my wife's Dell*

iPad: casual user, probably familiar with Mac or iPhone OS. Needs something inexpensive and really portable that can do lots in a small package without a lot of hassle. Doesn't need to edit video and play WoW while cybering some 13 year-old girl.

That pretty much breaks it down. To each their own, I guess.

What's funny is that people are comparing it to iPad in an attempt to sell it.

iPad isn't even out yet and it's already changed the game.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

What's funny? It runs flash and the iPad doesn't?

"While a certain slate computer that rhymes with "rad" has been criticized for lacking such standard notebook features as a camera, multitasking...."

Saying it rhymes with rad sounds like a compliment to me...

This is the true meaning of the post, exactly what you pointed out. For those that didn't get it, thejakill, got it. Whether or not once you read it think it's funny, that's another issue.

Just wait until next year when everyone brings out their new "revolutionary" touch tablets that feature a mobile OS and an app market.

Man, people are really stretching things here. The iPad isn't even out yet, you have never touched one, yet still feel expert enough to criticize another product. Amazing...

And if it could be a hackintosh, it's the product that some have clamoured for
(USB, Flash support, multitasking etc).

Nice to see someone further/sell the netbook slate convertible.

I still don't understand this ongoing vendetta some people have against the iPad. Why do you care? Why this fixation on a product you have no plans to buy? The only thing I can figure is it is a bunch of folks who love Microsoft products and are trying attack Apple every chance they get.
