Hi All,

My husband dropped his 5S and smashed the screen. We need something to get him through until the new phones are available in September. Can he just go to Walmart and buy a pay as you go phone to use until he can get a 6S? He would just need to put his SIM in the pay as you go phone?

We're with ATT by the way and his iphone is not under contract any longer.

Thanks for any help!!

Yep, get a cheap AT&T GoPhone and use it for a month.

Honestly, buy a new screen off eBay which isn't that much I think, and repair it. IFixit has good instructions and just take your time. It doesn't hurt to try since the screen is broken.

Get a cheap AT&T phone at Wal Mart or Target. You may have to go to AT&T and ask them to give you another SIM Card as cheap phones will use a different size sim card. I dropped my iPhone 4S in water a few years ago. Managed to save it with a bowl of rice. While waiting out the 3 days I bought a dumb phone for $20 at Target. My suggestion is to always have a back up phone in case something happens to your main phone.

Dropped my phone two weeks ago. Screen is easily 100 pieces. Placed clear packing tape over it and it still works. Had an old Iphone3 in drawer and now using that until new phones come out and will buy one via Next.

nostresshere - that's what my husband did for now. Put some kind of clear hospital tape over the screen. I think he can make it with that for a month or so. Then get a 6S and maybe get the 5S repaired and sell.

Thanks for the advice, guys!

Yea, the tape thing works pretty good. Stupid me covered the speaker hole at first. When I pulled up the tape to uncover it, a few pieces of glass came as well. LOL!

As to repairing it myself. I am pretty handy, but discovered if you damage a cable in the process, the phone is toast.

Look on craigslist, I just recently bought an iphone 5s for $225 for at&t. And when the 6S comes out I could easily for -200-230 and get my money back. You can easily do the same thing : )
