iPod need a little help here

ok... if any one can help i will REALLY appreciate it... I have a 20 gig ipod... the problem is this... When u go to turn it on all that comes up is a envelope with a ! (exclemation point) i dont know what to do... my friend thought it was broken so he gave it to me.. i HEAR. there is a button pattern that will re set the ipod.. does any one know this or have any advice for me? 😱

put the hold button on then off and then hold the middle round button and menu at the same time for 6 seconds. that will reset it. if that dosnt work then the iPod needs service.
