Hi all, I am looking to remote my MacBook M1 over the internet so I can get iMsg's from my Windows PC at work. Can anyone recommend the most secure way to do this as I thought VLC wasn't very secure? I also do not mind spending a little money if needed.

Depending on where you work, I wouldn’t be surprised if remotely connecting to personal resources from a work computer is a serious (and possibly termination worthy) offense. Not all companies care, but those who do take it very seriously.

If you haven’t already, you may want to verify with your employer before going down this path.

Thanks and we are cleared for this on the computer I will be using. It is a contractor open connection. I can't bring my Mac though nor have phone connectivity so need to remote from a Windows system.

I like JumpDesktop. It is quick to connect and very responsive to use.

Off to check it out, thanks. Ah another monthly sub.

It may be hard to find a solution (that is easy to implement) that doesn't require a subscription. Personally, I use Splashtop. I have found it to be very reliable and reasonably priced. I was a TeamViewer user for years, but they priced themselves out of my cost range.

EDIT - Re-read and realized that OP wants to access Mac at home from a Windows PC at work....Splashtop would work, but will cost money. My original post was a solution for accessing a Windows PC at home from a Mac at work....not valid after I reread the original post

I am a recent convert to Jump and I do not pay a monthly sub. I think monthly subs are only for Teams and Enterprise accounts. Maybe you need those. If so, as said above, I think you will pay more and monthly.

It depends on your Knowledge.......

You can access your Mac via mremoteNG or VNC when having Screen Share activated but:
your Router has to be configured for using it from outside your LAN. ( fixed IP or DDNS )

Beside Teamviewer there is also AnyDesk.
These Sharing Tools are connecting to an Outside Server so you do not have to configure your Router.

But, you have to try if you can access the Mac when in Sleep Mode.
( Battery - Options enable end Sleep on Network access )

Maybe you have to edit Router to send WOL to your MacBook Air M1.

Best to test is conecting a Windows PC via your Handy Hotspot to the Internet.

Or simple buy an iPhone ;-)
