I am trying to rebuild a 5th generation iPod video.
I accidently broke the brown battery retainer clip so I can no longer get power to the iPod's motherboard is it possible to find a new part? Unless someone has an idea on how to retain the ribbon cable into the iPod's motherboard.

Anyone? Or a I going to have to go the route of purchasing a used motherboard or maybe another used ipod for the parts?

Hi,
just buy a broken iPod 5G, 6G or 7G.

Torsten,

I've uploaded a photo of the clip (for reference as well) as you can see one arm is busted right off.
So there's no way it will secure the battery ribbon cable as is...

I tried to snap some helpful photos. I really tried, but I am not equipped or practiced in macro photography. Here is my crummy best:
ipodvideo_batcon_lock_extended.jpeg
ipodvideo_batcon_brown_clip.jpeg

My specimen brown piece is marked "DDK 50 CHINA". (I imagine the mark can vary, if it is a batch code. Or it might be an identifier, same mark on all samples.) The little brown piece works as a shim: it is jammed in, presses ribbon/cable edge against wipers/fingers/pins in connector, secures ribbon with friction only. I wonder what is its official description by manufacturer; other than retainer clip, some call it: cable holder, lock, hold-down.

I wanted to update this thread and from the kind generosity of user butterburger cookybutter I was able to get a battery clip!
I recently completed the surgery with updated parts and I have now a fully functional 5.5 U2 video iPod with SSD!
Very happy. Thank you again butterburger cookybutter! :)
