My iMac's cd drive seems to have stopped working, all it does is eject any cd I put into the super drive. DVDs work fine. So I assume the SuperDrive is broken, so I am going to take it into an Apple Certified Service Company "Mac Made Easy".

    So my question....

What would be the best way to prepare my computer to protect my data from these technicians?

Is there anything I could try to repair the cd drive on my own? I have already created a new user and tried with that account but same problem.

    Thanks!

Did you try the hardware test from the DVD that came with your mac?

As far as protecting my data to me that would mean backing up to an external source and wiping the drive.

Just backup your drive on an external and hand it over. You could also use a time machine backup on an external if you'd like.
