If you're getting a carrier model, go for the HTC One. If you can get a Google Edition device, go for the S4. I love the S4 but if I had to use a skinned version.. Sense is better than TouchWiz.

I absolutely love my Google Edition Galaxy S4 though.

how do you get a google edition? i dont get all this android stuff lol

I went with the One. Better build quality, no crap features I will never use, and Sense 5 just seems much more practical to me. I am not sure what Fanaticalism is talking about with brightness. My HTC One gets just as bright as my iPhone 5 does outside.

No it doesn't

That link sounded great until the specs lower down on the page said it was only 16gb... (& for $649!)

The phonedog spec site said the S4 also came in 32 & 64gb INTERNAL storage. Not sure yet where a 64gb could be found, nor how much more it would be, but that would be my priority.
Yep 16gb is max internal on the GE

Would you mind if I butt in to ask similar Q's as OP? *Or should I start a separate thread?

I'm open to Android ideas if such a "workhorse-beast" as this even exists:

Would need a hold-in-one-hand, petite-size-hand model, but w/64gig (or bigger!), for a NON-techie (me), that will use it full-time long hours 12-16 hrs a day. So which Android would be best for...

....

Thank you!

Samsung Note 3 would be a great choice for you but you mentioned smaller size/one hand requirement. It has a very good note taking / drawing app. There are also third party note taking apps.

If Note 3 is too big, you can go with Galaxy s4. easily upgrade the memory. builtin storage (xx GB + 64gb) card will be enough to store your photos.

Ok? You want to explain what you mean?

Sure

The iPhone screen is much brighter than the htc one and gs4 by a mike, this isn't a opinion.

You may disagree in your opinion but looking at all three at the store the iPhone is very bright and the one is somewhat dark compared to it.

Oh so you are basing it on what you saw in a store. I am glad that is how it is made a fact. Sorry but I own both phones, and neither seem brighter than the other. You will have to give me something more than you saw it in a store.

If you want the best if both, I recommend getting the HTC Butterfly S. Has the same specs as the S4 including micro sd slot. The real difference is that the Butterfly S has a large 3200 mAh battery that will last quite a while. However, the build quality is not as great as the HTC One and it's currently available on asian markets. Try searching one on the internet if you want one.

Screen brightness on the HTC One is fine. My wife had a 5s for 14 days, and it was tough to tell whether one was brighter than the other outdoors. I drive a comvertible, and have zero problems using the HTC with the top down (stopped, of course). The 5s worked fine in that situation as well, but its smaller screen makes it more difficult to see. Nothing's perfect..... ;)

HTC One 460 cd/m
Iphone 500 cd/m²

Edit: The iPhone leans heavily towards to blue in the color temp area which is perceived to be brighter as well (albeit at the expense of accuracy).

I already responded to you, but you chose to ignore it.

Iphone is brighter with an inaccurate color temp which leans towards blue giving the impression of an even brighter screen (obv at the expense of poor color accuracy).

Google edition stuff is for hardcore Anroid nerds. The average consumer doesn't need a Google edition Android. I love Android and run a stock S4 and see no need for a GE version of my device.

Yes, but do you own both devices? Have you been outside with both phones? I have them both and can not tell the difference. It's one thing for the iPhone to be brighter on paper, but it's another to actually use them in the real world.

Also the part that you quoted me on was not directed at you. I was quoting someone else. He was talking about in store he could see the iPhone was brighter.

The beautiful thing about display technology is that unlike sound there are objective measurements and standards to explain what is perceived and correct, which helps remove or mitigate bias.

Peak luminance is a measurement and there is no room for subjectivity.
Studies based on perceived brightness due to shifts in color temperature are also objective and controlled and leave no room for subjectivity.

To answer your question, at one point I had a Sprint One, ATT s4, ATT i5 in my home at the same time... is this relevant to the fact that the iPhone is objectively brighter? Nope, none, nada zilch, zippo, but my perception was in line with the objective data. ;)

As far as the post that was not directed at me, you asked the OP for proof since his subjective impressions were not valid for one reason or another, so I figured I'd repost. :)

Ok well I understand what you are saying. I just can't see the difference. Sure it may be there, but I can't tell, and I don't believe most people will be able to either.

I used both and I can tell you driving in a tinted car late night and looking at the iPhone vs one screen the iPhone screen is ridiculously brighter.

I don't care for Apple iPhones as I feel they're too basic and small but denying this isn't just denying the truth, I don't see anything near the brightness of the iPhone at 50%.

That doesn't mean the iPhone screen is overall better since I don't watch movies or video on my iPhone but for straight brightness the iPhone wins easily.

Thanks for those extra details, chagla, re the Note-3. True, it does sound perfect for lots of notes & other creative endeavors. Sadly, it's 1.1 inch wider than current handheld with no extra "finger knuckles" left over to grasp something that wide. It would be heavier, too, but I do Love hearing of its 3gb ram spec as well:

SSG-Note-3: _64gb _3gbRam _168gram*(vs*135-3Gs) _3.5"-Wide (vs. 2.4"-3Gs) _5.7"-Tall (vs. 4.5"-3Gs).

Thank you, yes, it looks like that will have to be the route to take. That or cave in & buy a 5s w/64gb internal, which was not my plan or desire.

Shame on Samsung for not distributing the S4 64gb-Internals it said it was going to do. It looks like they pulled the same stunt in 2012, promising a 64gb S3 & then not delivering. :-/

I currently have an iPhone 5. I really want a bigger screen.should I go with the htc one or gs4? I hear gs4 lags more but it does have the slim bezel and a 5 inch screen.
I switched to Android 1 year ago (GS4) and If you really don't want an iPhone you should buy HTC one or G2. Galaxy S4's most features are useless (there are some good apps too like S-Health, It works like Nike+). Smartscroll, smartstay etc. don't work properly most of the time. If you want 1 5.2 screen, and If you don't mind plastic design go with G2 but ıf you want better speakers and apple-like aluminum design go with HTC one. Note 3 is a great choice too but it's too big for me. Anyway most android flagship phones will realase on spring such as Galaxy S5 and HTC's new flagship phone. Also there are lag-free (almost) Google editipn of HTC one and Galaxy S4. Google editions come with pure Android, Android Phones with pure android (such as Nexus devices) runs smoother but you will NOT get features of HTC one / Galaxy S4 if you buy a google edition.

On paper the S4 is my perfect phone. But damn I do miss glass and aluminium.

An updated S4 is very smooth and responsive btw. Build materials aside it is solid.

I must use a case due to sweaty hands lol, spigen slim armor
I love having the sd card / removable battery, good camera. Quality phone if you can get over the plastic indeed
I'll likely pass on nexus 5, since I already spent a fortune on this, but I'm happy :p

I have not read the thread so here it goes I have an IPhone 5s and HTC One so I voted with my pocket. Btw I tried the GS4 and did not like the look, feel and the TW skin.
