I just moved to Boston for school and in my apartment my wireless signal drops a lot. I live with 3 other guys in a old 4 floor apartment. We all have macbook pros, iphones, and video game systems(2 ps3s,a wii and a xbox 360) all running on our wireless, tho when I am on my iphone it says I can join about 20 other networks.

I am wondering whats a good wireless router. The apple airport extreme kind of seems pricey for 180 bucks. I already have a portable hd, and my wireless router is like 1 1/2 year old but is wireless N.

Any ideas why my signal drops? I mean we just unplug it and it works again seems to happen every other day which is kind of annoying. My router is password protected to sign in so I think the only people on that network are my roommates as its a very long and annoying 32 letter/number password the router picked itself.

Netgear WNR 3500L -$80

Or

Netgear WNDR 3700 -$150

Either of these is arguably much better than the airport extreme.

Cool I picked up the Netgear 2000 which is hte same thing as the 3500L just 20 bucks cheaper and no gigabit which I don't need because nothing is plugged to the router other than the modem.

While I think the AEBS is worth it, if you don't need that USB port it can be pricey. I'm glad to see you got the Netgear. It is the only other router I have used that has been as good as the Airport.
