I think this is a myth. Studies have shown Android is more stable than iOS apps.

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/tech...-proves-android-more-consistent-than-ios.html

I don't care what researchers say in this case, I've owned a Google Android device in the past and have had first hand experience in the reliability issues. Android has pretty graphs that tell you data consumption and usage, which I can't believe iPhone still does not have! Though for me, I am okay because the stability is better.

Things may have gotten better, but I would have to experience it for myself.

You must have used android before kit kat days.

Nowadays, you must have months of patience if you want to catch an app crashing in Android. I have my s8+ for 6 months and I can't remember a time that any of the mainstream apps crashed.

While i have used pre-Kit Kat days, which were so awful I cringe thinking about it, I did use KitKat and used up to Lollipop. That's where my impressions left off.

There's alot of well known reviewers on youtube that have table tops full of android phones they can use at any given time and they all revert back to using an iPhone as their daily driver. Pretty much says it all.

Sorry to say this but you are asking on an Apple "cult" forum what you should get, it doesn't make much sense. Anyway I still use my S5 daily and updated and it runs like a dream as fast and smooth as my iphone 7 plus, so in my opinion you should defenetely get the Note8, you will just get a big bang for the buck like, the best sceeen on market, the big display that you are looking for, much better battery life, sd card slot, HEADPHONE JACK (I guess this is a feature nowadays), and most of all Android which you are already used to and is more reliable nowadays than iOS (laughs at ios 11). Don't be fooled into the Apple's perfection as it's not the case anymore since Tim Cook took the lead. For someone who is already used to Android for years you will just end up frustrated with the iphone in 1 month. (All my opinion).

Hello community. I am currently in the market for a new smartphone as I've had the Samsung Galaxy S5 for over 3 years now. The picture is not yet clear to me on whether or not to make the switch to Iphone from Android. The Samsung Note 8 looks enticing, but the Iphone does as well. For the record, I'm looking for the biggest screen possible, so I would definitely go with something like the 8 plus over its smaller counterpart. Can some Iphone experts here give me the rundown on why it's better to take Iphone over any Android?

If you are used to Android, why do you want to move over to Iphone? Unless you are immersed in Apple ecosystem, otherwise Iphone is very complicated and unfriendly outside the ecosystem. Iphone doesnt inter-operate with non-apple hardware and software at all. A lot of the basic things that you take for granted in android you will have to go through hoops or workarounds to do (if you are not totally in apple eco-system).

Honestly as someone that goes between both ecosystems let me give you the real deal. No matter what people on either side say Android and IOS differences are very negligible.

There was a time when I could say IOS Apps are far superior, apps on both are about the same now. There was a time when IOS was flawless and android kept fumbling, Android has fixed a lot of the bad stuff and unfortunately IOS has slipped a bit. For months on my IPhone 6s Plus I remember the icons at the bottom would change colors when going into landscape mode. And other little quirks like the screen freezing or going black. I had the most issues on the 7 plus, with no real home button it would be difficult to reset. When people say Iphones just work, i think what was wrong with mine than. Yes Apple has the Apple stores for support and they can be great but here in Cali they are always packed to the gills and that can be annoying.

But where Apple wins is control. Yes control can be a bad thing and it is sometimes, you will find yourself paying for way more on ios. From songs to ringtones, movies and more you will be paying for all, one example is fast charging, its free out the boox on android with most phones ofcourse and on ios its abot $80 with a few purchases. But where control is a good thing is in product control. When friends of mine tell me about their experience they have had with android I will often ask what phone did they have. Most times these phones will be on the lower end of the android spectrum like a Alcatel, or even a lower end Samsung or LG phones. These phones are whats hurting android. If your first experience on the dark side is a cheap android phone that ofcourse you will have a bad experience. Even some on the higher ends phones are crap, i will never touch an LG phone, horrible screens in my opinion and HTC is just boring.

I recommended if you get an Iphone get the X it will be a great device. If android is your fancy i would pick the Samsung S8 or plus or the Note 8.

I use both. I agree with the person above. There are a few subtle differences but overall they both get the job done well.

Reason why I've switched to using android as my daily driver is just that with iPhone, I can't seem to get a good signal in my apartment. My calls are cutting out or dropped and my data is very inconsistent.

But on Wi-Fi, the 7 Plus works just fine.

If I were you, I would never do it. I like the Pixel 2 as well as I do like Note 8. They have siperior hardware. I am not used to Android, that is why I use iPhone because of iOS. If I was like you familiar with Android, I would never move to an iPhone. Step backwards hardware wise.

Actually, it was my intention to get the opinions of the shameless IPhone fanboys. I wanted to hear why they prefer IOS/IPhone. There are some great replies here with some good information.

I disagree entirely. Apple hardware standards are some of the best in the industry with their iPhones. Granted there are defects that are noted on a tech forum, but for the majority, their phones are built to last and are crafted very well. In terms of longevity, some of the first generation iPhones are still operable.

ios advantages include

better support for both hardware and software problems
integration with other apple products
faster performance - iphone 8 is currently fastest phone on the market

I think the apps are generally higher quality in iOS because of the higher standards that Apple has for listings in their app store. But it really depends on the app.

There is also more money to be made with iOS apps vs Android apps. It’s been statically proven that more money is spent on the App Store vs Google Play Store. Therefore, developers put more time and effort on the iOS version. Because it makes them more money.

HTC is just boring.
This is boring to you?

Lost of good info here. Thanks guys. Is it me or are apps better on IOS? Android seems like it has more junk.
Apps are better on iOS, how come you stayed with android 3 years?

Biggest is Stability. Android can look very nice, but iPhone is more stable, software does not crash as often.

You are right, plus android’s touch has sensitivity issue. I scared to touch the screen because unwanted apps gets open or something else happens.

I basically grew up on Android. Had the s2 all the way up through all the note series. I decided to jump to Apple after the whole Note 7 blowing up incident. I used to chuckle when Apple users would mention “ecosystem”. But, after buying into the eco system. (I currently have the 7+, MacBook, Apple Watch, and iPad) I must say it is really amazing watching all these devices working seamlessly together. I would definitely recommend an iPhone over a Note or S8 at this point. Some other benefits of an iPhone are the updates (leaving most android updates in the hands of the carries is frustrating for roll out times) Optimization ( I know most androids have amazing hardware, but the hardware in iPhones works really well with iOS). In the end it is a tough decision but really with the way technology is now I think you will be fine with whatever path you choose.

I switched to a S8+ in the UK as the price was too tempting, moved from a 6+ that was still a decent phone (went to wife and on a fresh iOS 11 install it zips along) I like the S8+ a lot it's a great phone and has a lot of positives over Apple, like screen, SD card, headphone jack, AOD screen. I still think iOS is better though, as others have mentioned it's better integrated and runs more smoothly and gets updates straight away. But I don't think having those things is worth the £400 £600 extra a X would have cost me over the S8+, and i was bored of the form factor the the Apple + series phones so really my only choice was to move to Android. Next year I will see what Apple does, if they can bring in a X style device at current 8 and 8+ prices I may return to Apple.

IMO whichever phone you get will be better than an Android phone. I have had a Galaxy S7 Edge for about a year now and I can't wait to get rid of this heaping piece of junk. The experience is terrible when compared to the iphone experience. IT was good for about 2 months. After that it has been complete crap.

All about ecosystem with Apple. If you want seamless integration with iPad, mac, airpods, appletv...etc, go with iPhone. If u don't have those, Note8 is an amazing device!

@stilldebating - it totally depends on what you do on your phone, none of us can answer for you. You've been using Android for years, is there anything that has given you problems? Maybe people here can give you specific answers from the iOS side if you mention some issues? If all you want is the biggest screen possible, my opinion is below.

Anyone who says Android is a lag fest and not stable has never used a Pixel phone. The Pixel 2 experience blows away prior Samsungs I've had and the LG V30, in terms of smoothness and responsiveness. LG is choppy playing Words With Friends, for crying out loud. If you are thinking of staying with Android, get the Pixel 2 XL and don't look back. Interface is smoother than iOS 11 at the moment and you get 3 years of guaranteed software updates, no bloat, and no carrier BS. If you want bells and whistles, then get the Note 8 or S8+. I can't recommend the LG V30 at this time due to screen issues and...well...it is LG who has a bad track record of phones. You have 3 solid picks here for Android, in my opinion.

My opinion is that overall, regardless of my love for what Google is trying to do with the Pixel, iOS / iPhone experience is still vastly superior to Android. Unless you are a huge audiophile. I love that with Android you can just drag and drop files, and FLAC is supported by Play Music. Throw in some new bluetooth headphones that support AptX HD and / or LDAC, and you have a hell of an audio experience. Screw Apple and its AAC codec and proprietary W1 chip.

There are other reasons I'm staying with Apple but I don't want to write an essay or go off topic. You can't go wrong with the 8+ or with the 3 Android options I listed.

I always get the iPhone and the best Android device for that year (Note 8 now). Not considering the hardware, just OS, I feel that iOS apps are better overall and get updated faster than their Android counterparts. Android apps rely too heavily on ads and don't offer as many paid, ad free options. iOS apps tend to be little more stable.

And with OS updates, with iOS, you get it right away, you don't have to wait months for the carrier, like you do with Android. No fragmentation with Apple devices.

That being said...

The Note 8 is the first phone that for me personally, matches iOS devices. It's as smooth and stable as an iPhone and it blows the iPhones out of the water in features. This version of Android seems pretty solid so far.

I have an iPhone 8+ 256GB and and Series 3 LTE watch. I also have a Note 8 and a Frontier Gear 3. I pretty much have all the same apps on both platforms and can switch at will.

While I still believe iOS apps are just better overall, the truth is, the iPhone X (and the 8+) just underwhelmed. One of my big things is storage, I like lots of it for media. And, disappointingly, the iPhone 8/X did not match the new iPad Pro in its 512GB storage, despite a single chip solution being available. Meanwhile, my Note 8 has a 400GB Sandisk microSD card in it. And that S-Pen is pretty handy.

And I hate to say it, but the Frontier S3 blows the Apple watch out of the water. First, a round watch seems less geeky to me. Plus, the front face dial destroys that little side wheel, which I find a pain to use. I think the round face just shows more info and the text seems bigger. I enjoy using the Frontier much more than the Apple watch.

I'll still get the X, but I think for the first time in years, the Android phone, Note 8, will be my primary. But I can't make a final decision until I actually get an X in my hands.
