So I finally got my MacBook Pro 15 inch that was BTO (2.6ghz, 460, 512gb), and it came with a chip in the aluminum. I waited almost 2 months to get this laptop. And so that means if I go and exchange it for another BTO, ill most likely have to wait again for it to come from china again, and I really don't want to do that.

So my question to you guys is, should I just opt for the base model 2.6ghz??

I only did the 460 gpu upgrade cause I like to play some games here and there such as: CS:GO or WoW. Other than that I don't play anything really gpu intensive.

In terms of the 512gb ssd upgrade I did, was just to future proof it. However, I know very well I will never go beyond the base models 256gb. I don't need that much space.

should I opt for the base model and just save the 400, or do you think future proofing the laptop is worth spending the extra 400.

Also, does the 460 gpu get hotter and use more power than the 450? if so that could help make my choice easier as I would opt for the 450 to get some extra battery life.

Call Apple Care and speak to after sales. They will expedite you an advanced replacement which will put you to the top of the list meaning you'll get a replacement within a week or so.

How long does your battery last right now? I was about to order the base 15" in the store the other day but I wanted to replace the GPU with a 460 just for the exact same reasons as you. But for those games I'm sure you can use a 450. The nice thing is that the 460 has 4GB of ddr5 unlike the 450 which has 2GB. Let me know what your experience is with the one you ordered.

But going back to your original question, if it has a scratch I would totally return it and call AppleCare. I wouldn't any imperfection on a $2,700 machine.

Yes, call apple care. That scratch would drive my OCD (CDO ;) ) crazy! For what you paid it should be perfect. And yes as recommended above, apple will expedite a replacement.

I'm getting about 6-7 hours, but to be fair I haven't fully tested the battery. Im sure it could get more if I put the brightness down a bit more and just used it for searching the web. Sorry for the late reply
