I have owned a Dual Processor 2.5 G5 since it was introduced. Have not had an issue with leaking coolant (knock on wood) It is a great machine. I am a graphic designer/photographer and have a ton of programs running all the time. Its a work horse, and I wouldn't trade it in for anything at the moment. I can still add some RAM and increase the HD space if i wanted. And its got plenty of external ports for ext. HDs memory card readers ect.

Love it, you really won't regret getting a used G5 unless it had a problem to begin with.

Consider a NEW 24" iMac

...so i guess i've narrowed my choices down to either a G5 Quad Core 2.5 (seen them obtainable for around $2000 or so) or one of the Dual Core (2.5, 2.3 or 2.0).

basically, am i going to get $1000 of performance difference from say the Quad Core 2.5 to the Dual Core 2.0?
...

i've been watching on ebay... G5 Quad Core 2.5 - $2000 and up
...it. even further, if i am going to have to upgrade to a MP or whatever else comes along next with intel, maybe it isn't worth it to put so much into a G5.
any thoughts or advice folks?

Today we sold our perfect condition G5 Quad (4gb Apple RAm, 500GB, BT/Airport/AppleCare) for $1900 (locally on Craig's List) and a 20" ACD (with a tiny scratch in the screen) for $400.

Reasons: The G5 had slow graphics, ran very LOUD and very HOT.
Replacement: We are buying a the new 24" iMAC 2.8GHZ (and will buy 4GB RAM elsewhere this time!)
Use: We own a photography business and use Aperture. We think this will be an all around better machine.

We also have a 17" C2D MBP that is hooked up to a 30" ACD when we are not working in the field.
