Hi. I have an older 24" imac which needs to be replaced very soon. I have been looking and looking for a reasonable deal for a 27", then today came across this Mac Pro being sold in my area.

    SPECS:
CPU: 2x Quad Core Xeon Processors 2.8Ghz each (that's 8 cores)
    Memory: 10GB DDR2 FB-DIMMS
HDD: 2x 1TB HDD (in raid yes this has the addon RAID card)
    Airport: Yes (has wifi)
Network: Dual Ethernet ports and Airport card
Optical Drive: Dual DVD-RW drives (can also burn Dual Layer disks)
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 256mb

Went from emac to imac , not very knowledgable about Mac Pro, would love to hear your thoughts. Asking price is about $1000 that includes some 19" Dell monitor, Lion and Mountain, Adobe, I life, I work. I need longevity and reliability, while being affordable. Thanks.

I'd buy it over an iMac but then I'd buy an MDD over an iMac..

I'd say if you can get the person to $800-900 I'd buy

Thanks for answering. I understand the value of a Mac Pro versus an all-in-one like the imac, I just don't know if I would be going too far backwards. I realize there is only so far you can upgrade. BTW what is MDD?

The thing missing from your post is what apps you use or may use.
Depending on those you may need more ram and that HD 2600
may have to go. Check sites for the price of ram and video cards
for this Mac. From that point you will have a better idea of the "total" price.

I do some photo editing, business apps, web design etc. Normal stuff. No games.

I guess the easiest way for us to help you is to ask what you need?

So will you be using for work/business?

And what will be causing the greatest strain on the system? (storage, multi-tasking, screens, graphics, processing, e.t.c.)

Since "photo" and not "video editing is listed, this Mac as is will be more than
enough! Here are some sites to compare prices for that model.
With the RAID card installed a price of $800-$1000 will be hard to beat
If the 2013 MP's come out soon, the market will be flooded with 2008's! :D
