Can someone help enlighten me a little on buying a phone from Apple on their Upgrade yearly plan... its a bit confusing to me.
I want to get a plan thats prepaid... i'm tired of US cell companies ripping us off. I'm thinking of Verizon's prepaid plan (2 lines for $30/Line for 3GB Data).
If i read correctly, and i go to apple and buy that phone on their upgrade payment plan, i have to select a carrier. But i can't select a prepaid plan... i have to select a monthly plan, then walk out of the store and cancel and then select a prepaid plan. Is this still correct? Or can i Buy the phone and just go activate it myself with the prepaid. So confusing....

You should buy an unlocked phone using Apples financing. You don’t have to pick a monthly plan. Unless you are buying the X, which isn’t sold unlocked yet.

At the advice of an Apple rep online... i reserved a phone for store pickup. I chose Sprint, my current carrier, even though i didn't plan to stay with Sprint. He said i could pick it up, and the the phone comes unlocked. He cautioned me not to power it up with the Sprint SIM card installed. So i picked up the phone, and took it to AT&T. They helped me... it was very simple. They scanned the iPhone box to get its information, and ported over my number, popped in their SIM, and i was ready to go.
Importantly, since i got the phone form Apple, with their Upgrade Finance Plan, i was able to select the AT&T Prepaid plan, which is cheaper...
