Both are great machines, can't go wrong with either! However, if you don't need the portablity than the iMac is the best choice.

Well I did it, ordered my 24" iMac with the edu discount, and upgraded video card! I am so excited! And nervous about switching!
It says estimated ship by 10/26 and est delivery by 11/1. How accurate is this? How long does the regular shipping option take. Also how does it come, because I live in a dorm so I won't be able to sign for packages at my door, they are delivered to a service center, will they leave it there?

If you had it shipped to your school address then the university mail room will sign for it, and then probably make YOU sign for it when you pick it up. I'm obviously not familiar with your mail room, though.
Congrats on the new iMac...it will be massive!
If you are nervous about having it shipped to your dorm, you could call your local Fed Ex distribution hub and have them hold it until you pick it up.
