need advise

Hey

My 3gs running 3.1.2(7d11) & firmware 05.11.07 is unlocked with blackra1n a few yrs back. I wondering if there is a newer/better option to unlock/jailbreak. I dont like to the idea of worry about battery shutting down and locking the phone.

I am guessing you are on the tethered Blackra1n yes there are many options depending on if you saved your shsh blobs along the way. check out Dev-team blog http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ and Iclarified http://www.iclarified.com/entries/index.php?caid=2&scid=11&seid=2 how you stayed with a tethered jailbreak this whole time amazes me.. 😱

Old bootrom 3GS phones are untethered under 4.2.1. You sound like you may be old bootrom

i went on the the iclarified site, there is an option 3gs on 4.2.1, does that mean I should upgrade my firmware?

Go get iDetector and see if you have old bootrom. If so you are all set. If not then come back in a couple more days for recent updates, or you could deal with being tethered as you seem to be used to it.

i got idetector, its asking me to go into dfu mode...if I do that will i lose my data, contacts? how do I get out of dfu mode?

I think it has the option to kick you out of DFU mode once it is done reading it. Some other tools can do this too I believe.

You will not loose data just by going into DFU mode. To get out of DFU mode, just hold Home + Power button until phone turns off. Then, you can just reboot normally by pressing the power button.
