read your guidelines or ask somebody in the know get it in righting if you can they might also have some suggestions. since almost all cell phones have a camera and smart phones more so I sure it's been brought up at your work. what are your coworkers doing?

IDK. They trust me with all the information and I have access to tons of paperwork that I'm legally allowed to bring home. If they can give me a security clearance and allow me to have access to said information/paperwork I'd say they can trust me to not take a picture if they tell me it's forbidden. :dunno:
My work trusts me with a lot.
I work from home too.
The issue is not about small bits of data. They know what files I open and what databases I use. They have measures in place to track what I look at. If that information became public, you can bet they will be all over me.

Plug an unauthorized USB memory stick or drive into ANY system (laptop, desktop, server) in the company and a security officer will be at your desk in a matter of minutes. CD/DVD burners are forbidden.

Try using an unauthorized storage device on your work-at-home system and your VPN session is terminated and your security badge is flagged. When you do show up to work, you will have a nice conversation with a few guys in suits.

They don't want anyone to photograph what physical security measures are in place.
Everything from the type of badge readers used, what biometric devices are installed to where security cameras are placed.
Things like that are what they are concerned about when it comes to cameras.

Guys,

The company I am about to start working for does not allow camera phones on the complex. I'm an AT&T user and I need a phone that doesn't have a camera so I can switch my SIM card into that phone while I'm at work and switch back to my iPhone the rest of the time. The alternative would be to get another iPhone (or any phone) and break the camera infront of security but I'd prefer not to do this for warranty reasons. Are there any smart phones without cameras that are compatible with my iPhone service plan? Ideally I'll just pick up the iPhone 5 this summer and break the camera in my iPhone 4 for when I'm at work, but that might be the most expensive option since I'm not due for an upgrade.

I appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

I suggest you get a unlocked BlackBerry Storm 9550, they SHOULD have one without a camera on there. I think that's the closest your gonna get to an iPhone with no camera... Hope this helps =).

I must have overlooked your post, I apologize. That looks like it might be my best option, assuming I have a microsim adapter can I just pop my iphone sim in and not worry about additional fees or contract changes? I'll have to stop into an AT&T store this weekend to find out for sure but if anyone has any thoughts or experience on the subject that'd be great.

I work with naval nuclear propulsion. For me it's all about bits of data that are in my head, written on gauges and in our technical documents.

OP: there was a time when swapping between different phone styles (smart and non-smart, iPhone and black berry, etc) would wreak havoc on the bill because of data plans being different. That's why I swapped to using a 3GS and a 4. The camera removal operation is easy. Hell, a local store does it for $15

That's a silly company... Communist!

I worked for the Department of Defense, and they do not allow them at all, if you get caught with one, well it will not be pretty, I worked for them, and I was only allowed to use their Blackberry issued T-Mobile phone while on base.

I am assuming it is Government contractor or something similar.

Yeah, I'm not comfortable saying the company name but it is the company that works solely for the goverment.

can't they just lighten up about the policy and make an amendment that states, "we will remove you private bits, if caught taking pictures"

I don't think companies, at least not American companies ;), are in the habit of removing "private bits" when the accused is found to have violated a policy.

Companies/DoD are not going to lax these rules. There is way to many security problems EVERYWHERE for them to lax on this stuff. We're talking compromised personal information, classified information, etc. I understand their reasoning and just because they can trust some that doesn't mean they can trust all.

Consider yourself lucky that you can even have a cellphone at work. I can't have any device with any sort of memory in it period. Any disc that I take in (to say listen to music) has to be professionally manufactured (not burned) and even then it has to be scanned and can not leave the building once inside. No kind of physical media whatsoever can even come in contact with the computers I use.

Isn't signing your life away to the gov't. fun! lol
