I purchased a legitimate copy of NWN from MacSoft a couple of years ago. I never finished it, so I decided to put it back on my computer to give it another try. Well, the CD Key is not on the Jewel Case. I emailed MacSoft, and even though I bought and registered the game through them, they won't help. They no longer hold the license, so they say they aren't responsible. I may be able to track down the manual, but if someone can help me out with a key, I would be thrilled.

It does bring up some interesting licensing issues. If I bought from MacSoft, and they no longer hold the rights, who can/should help me out. I've always been a faithful registerer because I thought it meant something.

P.S. I realize that I am ultimately responsible for not managing my own CD Key. I am not trying to imply that someone else is at fault. But I did register the software, and this does fall under some support arena... even if I am an idiot.

    Just sent E-mail to Bioware

Brilliant. Kind of an obvious suggestion. I actually feel stupid for not simply doing that in the first place. In any case, the e-mail was sent. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Keep in mind the manual is MASSIVE. Check your bookcase, it might be between War and Piece and the Guttenberg Bible.

One thing with Bioware games ... you can store your CD keys there! I have them for loads of my games at their site. Unfortunately you can only store them once - so if you store the PC version you cannot do the Mac version/.

Yeah, Macsoft told me the same thing. I tore my house apart today trying to find it, but all I came up with is a CivIII manual and an Age of Empires II manual.

It is my bonehead stupidity for not writing it down or something, but Bioware/Atari haven't been real responsive. If anyone wants some perfectly good NWN I disks, let me know. I do not have a very good feeling about recovering my CD Key.

P.S. I bought it years ago instead of the Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic. Maybe I should just go buy that one. Keeping very close tabs on any new CD Key.

    Here are some random thoughts:
    - Between the original game, the two expansions, the 6 official Premium Modules (and one 'canceled' one) you have several hundred hours of excellent D&D gaming! (I did a review article on the modules for GamerDad a few years ago)
    - You might consider Goozex, which is a game trading site. NWN is 'available' for the Mac, but is (IMO) relatively expensive at 300 points (~$15). That is because requests are outpacing supply, and the points values are based on supply & demand.
    - Since the PC and Mac keys are the same, you could consider the PC 'Platinum' version which is 150 points on Goozex (~$7.50) and includes both expansions and the Kingmaker Premium module.

KotOR for Mac is available on Goozex as well, but is also in high demand.

Great Thoughts! To be quite honest, I hadn't followed the expansion packs very closely. Would a key from the premium/expansion/module work? I don't want to sound like a tightwad, but I don't want to sink more money into a game, if it isn't going to work. I guess the buy a pc version for the Key is the best option. Thanks for the tips.

For anyone interested. MacSoft responded to my inquiry in less than 24 hours. So far, nothing from Bioware... (in all fairness, it has been just over 24 hours for Bioware.)

    Three Cheers for Destineer Studios!!!!

Just got an e-mail from Destineer. They have done some further investigation about my problem (unsolicited since my first e-mail) and may be able to come up with a CD Key. They asked for pics of all that I have. If it looks good, they'll send me a Key.

So, this is an excellent reminder to register your software whenever you buy it. For now, my faith in the system is restored... at least by Destineer. I'll let you know if I ever hear back from Bioware.

No - they are linked to the game itself. So the PC NWN key works with the Mac version, the PC expansion keys work with the Mac expansions, and so on.

    CD Key Works!!!!!

Thanks to Jason at Destineer, I am on my way to NWN for a new adventure. As I said, it is nice to get the kind of extra effort assistance that I did get from them.

Also, thanks to all the folks that responded with good thoughts and ideas. If all goes well with NWN, I'll probably be getting an expansion pack in the future.

Excellent to hear! I love NWN, it reignited a RPG passion I'd lose since the early Apple ][+ days in ~'81 in college, and now I'm a full-on RPG lover and write regularly for RPGWatch and other sites ...
