Need to add some TB. I have an older Sans Digital 5 bay JBOD RAID array. My understanding from the Sans Digital website is this is limited to 10tb, which I take to mean an individual drive limit of 2TB.

Looking at the most cost effective 2TB drives I can lay my hands on. I have read that some desktop drives do not like being in a RAID tower as the vibration of the other drives will create errors. Conversely, I have read that Mac's in general do not play well with some NAS drives (WD RED for example) and in general enterprise level drives are out of my price range.

Need the best 2TB drive I can place in the box for less than 100 bucks to my door.

Currently looking at some refurb seagate constellation units on ebay, but based upon reviews when new, not impressed.

So leading candidate is this: http://www.microcenter.com/product/...s_Desktop_35_Internal_Hard_Drive_PH3200U-1I72
sales clerk claims this is the older WD Blue as WD bought Toshiba, yada, yada, yada

What model tower from Sans Digital? Is it eSATA? How is it connected? (Technically JBOD is the opposite of RAID.)

I have four of the 5-bay eSATA (TR5M-B) towers of various ages from Sans Digital, and I have 16 4TB disks in them. I think that the list on the website just hasn't been updated.

All the 4TB drives are Seagate 4TB NAS drives - only $175 at Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178393

I always thought that was strange, but they list them that way. it is eSATA, TR5M. Probably 5 years old. I have never tried a larger drive, just took their word for it. I am using a RocketRaid 2 port eSATA card to drive it.

At about 45/TB that drive feels like a pretty good deal.
