You asked "why go to court?" I explained my point of view.

I follow I think: you would call the police and then goto court for further retribution/fines/punishment. I agree with you if it gets out of hand and the police dept. doesn't fine them.

Sorry - I was just trying to clarify.

It's fine.. I'm tired and maybe my posting is showing it :)

i think that it's ridiculous that she would take your truck.

I was taking my girlfriend to a movie when my clutch got stuck partially pressed in, i was in the left lane of a double lane road and i decided to change lanes quickly and then turn off on a side street so that i wasn't stuck on a main road.

I changed lanes, i didn't have lots of space to change but enough, i slowed down and turned down a side street.

The guy i changed lanes in front of said that i'd cut him off and that there was only a foot between my car and his and that we would have hit if he hadn't hit the brakes, that kind of thing.

Anyways, when he was braking he bumped the cub on the right then kind of hit the snow bank in the side street that i'd turned down and it made his tire deflate.

Surprisingly the tire was fine once he put air back in, but he did wreck that plastic bit that kind of sits under your engine or some such thing, and said that that would be $80 in the end i just paid it so that it was over and done with. I probably should have just not agreed to pay for it seeing as it was probably his fauld he hit the snow bank and because our cars never even touched. In the end i had to get a ride home with my girlfriends dad and leave my car where it was, i felt so stupid.

I think you should offer her the $75 so that she at least has an option that isn't no money at all, if she doesnt' accept that i would call the police.

You should have just drove away. I don't get how, if they never touched it, you let them hook it up after the fact and take it. I totally would have gotten in and driven off.

What a ****ing crazy story I can't wait to hear how this turns out!

I would call the PD and I would go to the media. Mainly because this is the type of story the media loves and they would greatly enjoy giving the company a ton of bad press. Plus the power of the media is sometime more powerful than the PD at getting stuff done.

Definately, no company wants to get really bad PR like that, unless they don't know whats good for them.

But it doesn't sound all that great that they have contracts with the local PD and all of that.

hence the reason I said go to the media. The company will get bad PR. If the PD will not do anything about it they will get brought in to the mess as well and they will get torn to shreads by the press and the PD also does not want that so it would force one or the other to act.

But I did like the idea of your friends dad turning around and handing them a bill and I would say 500+ is a good number. At the very least it could force them to call it even. But the sounds of it it sounds like the lady was just pissed and was taking it out on you. I see no legal right for them to take your truck and at most you only own them $75 because you only called for the first truck. They called in the next one and it is THEIR fault they damage and got their trucks stuck.

ok, so for those of you who want to know how this story ended, here it is.

My father and i went over there today around 11:40 am central time. i waited in my dad's truck while he went in there and talked to her. He talked with her for about ten minutes. He is on the board of directers for a chemical company we both work for so he is good at talking with people....and making them feel like a idiot if he wants too :p (i don't win many arguments with him, but im a dam good arguer :D )

ANYWHO. So he did most of the talking from what i could see, and she said a few things. One of the guys walked out with my key and gave it to me, along with a 10 amp fuse after they had talked for about 10 minutes. The guy told me it was the fuse to my fuel pump. He started to tell me where it was, and i told him "I'm perfectly aware of where this fuse goes in my truck" he didn't say much after that, just walked off. My dad was signing a check when i walked into the office. I looked down at it and it was for $200. I wanted to say something but i was getting my truck back and decided not to make it worse.

When i left my foot on the clutch "slipped" and i dug two small ruts in their parking lot, just to show my dissatisfaction with the whole thing. The woman that owns the place is not one to be messed with so im sure she hates me now, oh well, more stress for her the better :D

I talked with a few guys at work and they all agreed with all of what you guys, and ladies have said. But i did talk with a former cop of 11 years and he said that technically i did owe them money. Because they performed a service. I can still call up the media i guess, and cause a bunch of ruckus but i don't know if i will. I know i am getting off easy. The land owner could have pressed charges against me for trespassing, and destruction of property. Too bad for them, but they probably just lost at least 300 potential customers. Not including people they tell, wife's, husbands, friends, relatives etc etc.

They got away with it this time. I don't have the time much less the money to pay for court costs, lawyers and other costs of courts. But i have learned a very valuable lesson with this. But i owe my dad $200...BLAST!

Well, I was hoping the story ended with the lady being escorted to jail in handcuffs (or shot). ...But your ending is almost as good. :p

Glad everything worked out.

Ah well.. Atleast you got your truck back!!! I had high hopes for this thread though :)

Do you live in Rolla by any chance?

I'm in this craphole for college :( :D

I do. Yea not the best place to live but its close enough to other cities, rivers, lakes, and other stuff it makes up for it if you ask me.

The name of the tow company is C&C towing. Please don't mention anything about a red nissan, I'm sure that I'm on her most wanted list :D.

Sorry the story didn't turn out any better, could have been a lot worse.
