Hi guys,

I'm looking at different configuration options for my new iMac. My current iMac (Mid 2010) still works fine, but it becomes a little slow sometimes, mainly when launching the OS or applications. As a student, I'm eligible for the student discount via Apple, so the prices down below are not the regular prices. I still can't decide which configuration to choose or what parts to invest in. I mostly use my Mac for basic tasks like e-mailing, browsing the web, Photoshop (light work), Premiere (light work) and DJ'ing (Serato DJ). I hope someone can help me out. These are my options:

iMac 4K 21.5"
3.0 Ghz i5
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
Radeon Pro 555 2 GB
€ 2.086,04

3.4 Ghz i5
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
Radeon Pro 560 4 GB
€ 2.161,06

iMac 5K 27"

3.4 Ghz i5
8 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
Radeon Pro 570 4 GB
€ 2.312,31

Which configuration do you guys think is the best choice for me?

Based on what you are planning to use the iMac for, I don't think the specifications on the 3 configurations will make too much difference.

Personally, I would go for the 27". I believe this will give you the most wow factor, considering you would be coming from a 21.5" non-retina iMac. The 27" is also the only option that would allow you to upgrade the ram later down the road.

There's no snappy screen version of there's no "replacement for displacement", but always get the biggest screen you have room for.

Lost seconds scrolling are the same as lost time lost seconds waiting for a slower CPU.

27" is more wow-factor indeed.

Plus, the graphics card in the 27" (radeon pro 570) will pretty much annihilate the offerings in the smaller imacs. It can be a fair boon as time passes.

I've re-considered my options (see first post). Sure thing is that I'm going with the 512 GB SSD as my main priority is the speed of booting the OS and starting applications. As because it is hard to upgrade the RAM, I've chosen to configure the 21.5" models with 16 GB of RAM. Still unsure whether it's better to go with the 21.5" or the 27", but from your replies it seems that 27" is the way the go.
Price difference between de top-of-the-line 21.5" model and the base model 27" is €150. Between the two 21.5" models the price difference is €75.

Is there really that much of a difference between the Radeon Pro 560 and the Radeon Pro 570?
