Hi,

Hey Guys I'm having problems connecting to my network drive with my macbook, I can access the ftp server, but everytime I try and connect to the smb server my macbook tells me there was a problem connecting. Doesn't make alot of sense to me and I've done alot of searching in various forums looking for a solution but unfortunately haven't dound one.

Once again I can connect as ftp but not as smb, you guys got any ideas?

OS: 10.6.8
Network Drive: Freecom Network Drive 400 GB

You didn't tell us how you are trying to connect? It should be as simple as choosing "Go" > "Connect to Server", and then using a URL like "smb://username@servername/sharename".

This also applys if your mac is a member of the same domain as the file server. If the mac is not a member of the domain but the fileserver is using domain accounts for security, then you will need to follow akalehzan's advice for prepending the domain and a backslash before your username.

Also, make sure that you can "ping servername" from terminal.
