For my IPP 9.7 I have the Apple silicone case for the back and the smart cover, I don't care for the ASK as my 9.7 is my travel device and some of the time I don't need and want to keyboard. But there are times I know I will definitely want a keyboard. For those time I had purchased Keys to Go by logitec, that an smart cover are similar in cost to ASK, due to the size of Keys to Go, it is not more bulk the ASK for the times I know I want keyboard. When I don't, I leave it behind and have the smart cover at all times. The separate keyboard also allows me to use the smart cover to stand the IPP up in several positions.

This is just my 2 cents but one that I would recommend trying.

Edit:

Plus the Keys to Go keyboard adds the additional row of function keys that I find useful that apple left off the ASK.

I have the ipad pro 9.7 128gb wifi with a smart case i bought from Amazon

I also bought the apple pencil and i use it when i teach.

No need of the keyboard. I type faster with my fingers than keyboard.

I have bought the Apple Smart Keyboard.. I was a bit skeptic, but must admit it works like a charm. It doesn't add that much bulkiness when using it as a cover, and I can type almost as fast as on a normal keyboard (9.7").
And since it works fine as a cover, im not bothered bringing it along with my iPad.

Can highly recommend it.

Cons:
Miss function keys
Light in keys (but then again, the display lights it up).

I'm with @lax28: I also bought the smart cover, as that works for me 90% of the time. The fixed angle for typing is a potential problem for me, as is the additional bulk.

I bought the pencil, but have never used it and probably don't need it for the apps I use. My advice: get the smart case, and decide later on a keyboard, if at all, and the pencil.

The Logitech 'Keys-to-go' fits with my iPad in my old iPad (1) neoprene case...

No. I assume that's because since you have the keyboard all the time...why would you use the iPad in a keyboard position like this? I suppose some would like that for viewing/browsing. I don't see a way for this stand configuration.
You can use it the way he illustrated. It works. There is a funky way to folding where it works that way. The keyboard is not accessible during this orientation though.
