Need Help Downloading

Im new to mac and like it so far, but am having trouble downloading things. Whenever I download a game or something, it saves it as either .dmg.bin or .bin or .exe or .sitx and I can't open any of them. When I open them up it tells me to choose an application to open it, but all of them are in text. Is there a certain application that I need to download to open these files?

Sorry but Macs are hopeless when it comes to games. Make sure you get the Mac version of a game (assuming it's legal and there is actually a Mac version) before downloading. 🙂

No those files .dmg.bin, .bin or .sitx are compressed files. You need to you a program like StuffIt to extract them. .exe is a Windows extension which is probably not compatible with Mac.

Most of the compressed files will automatically download though. But yeah, Stuffit is a good idea. 🙂

I thought that macs come with stuffit installed.

That stopped with Tiger for some reason.

Probably to save money. (Apple has to pay a license fee to include StuffIt with OSX)
