I have a 15-inch mbp early 2008 model. For some reason straight out of the box I had problems with the dvd/disk reader. Sometimes it recognized and read dvd's and other times it would just spit the disc right back out. Well I recently upgraded the OS and now it wont play or read any kind of disc that I insert. Is there anyway to reinstall the drives for the player and would something like that help?

I had mine replaced. I figured since the system disc wasn't reading then I had a problem.. If its under warrantee, have Apple check it out.

Unfortunately its not. The warranty expired a while ago. I contacted apple and they said they might have someone help me online because it seemed to get worse after I installed the latest OS.

Check the media is clean, and free of marks and scratches. Buy a DVD lens cleaning kit...Cheap enough on Amazon etc. If the drive is still faulty I guess you have two options. Get it replaced by Apple or buy an external USB model.
