I have a macmini that works great and is plugged into my Yamaha receiver that goes to a 3.1 sound setup and 4k tv. I have video files where the audio only plays the surround mode but watching people's lips move with zero sound. Can anyone give me any idea what I can do to get the audio to play correctly? Is there some sort of software I need?

what file type? what playback software? sounds like you have a 5.1 surround file that is feeding left and right but not the center channel (where the dialog is). this is one of those things that Perian used to solve. playback through VLC might be the answer. I don't have a file handy to check with but VLC should have settings to output as stereo or Dolby Surround (matrixed).
