Update us if it works!
Well then, here you go:
I was allowed to take it home yesterday (finally) and immediately noticed one thing: That thing emits a annoying hum on my desk, and yeah - its the HDD in bay 1 because when I remove it the thing is dead silent, only the fans are whispering in the background. I tried tightening the screws which didn't help. Only thing that seems to work is unlocking the side door with the latch (not removing it completely, just unlocking)
Any idea what I could do except buying a SSD ?
Its a great machine anyway, absolutely kills my 2.4 GHz Penryn MBP performance wise
Edit: Got rid of the noise now, put a lot of felt pieces under HDD bay 1 and now its quiet ;-)
Mac Pro, even the low-end one from 2006 is awesome. That model has more processing power than even new MBPs and much more expansion capabilities.
Good choice![]()
Agreed. It may be an even better deal once snow leopard comes out.
I think the MP is far inferior compared to the MBP. Not only is the Core2Duo higher clocked but also is it a more modern technology. It's energy consumption and efficiency is also stalar and it is portable.
The only reason for the MP is the ability to have a lot of Ram and the ability to put in a high end graphics board which might make your Mac sing once it's running Snow Leopard.

What can you not understand about:
4 Cores with More L2 Cache > 2 Cores with a slightly higher Freq.
The Mac Pro will rip apart any MacBook Pro Out There, because it has an effective 8Ghz, the MacBook Pro will have 4.8Ghz Effective. The MacBook Pro is very energy efficient, but so is the Mac Pro, and its not really a factor since its a Desktop.
Anyway, congrats on the purchase, you'll notice an even bigger difference when Snow Leopard rolls around, and you can actively use all 4 cores.
I thought the MacPro was dual core because he wrote "2.0 GHz Xeon x 2"
