Hi - I'm a real newbie and my 16gb 4s is my first iPhone, I've had it since jan - no issues till now. The last few days my keyboard pops up (when i swipe completely to the left and go to the search) and stays up without going back down. This has not happened before - I was wondering if any one has trouble shooting suggestions that will find out what's wrong and fix it. Thanks in advance

Not sure I understand: what's bothering you is the fact that the keyboard pops up and stays there while you're in search mode?
If yes, this is normal. Swipe back out of search mode and the keyboard should disappear...

Try a Soft Reset. Hold the Power button and the Home button at the same time until 'slide to power off' is displayed then let go. You could try a Hard Reset if that doesn't work, same as above but keep hold of both buttons UNTIL the Apple logo appears.
