Hello All,

I've been struggling to get this configuration to work for almost a week now and am turning to the forum for help. I'm afraid I may have two issues with my install.

First I am installing the ubuntu-10.04-server-powerpc.iso version on one of two drives in a Mac PowerPC G4 dual 500MHz 1GB Server system. I am installing it on the drive with SCSI id 0. Mac OS 10.4.11 is installed on the drive at SCSI id1.

I may have incorrectly formatted the drive that I loaded Ubuntu on. I used disk-utility and chose an Apple partition map, free space, and no os 9 drivers. During the Ubuntu install I told the installer to use guided/Maximum free space. The installer chose the correct drive so I let it go.

When I boot the system and hold down option I see both the Mac and Linux systems to choose from.

If I try to boot Ubuntu Linux I get
************* From the screen ****************

First stage Ubuntu bootstrap

Press l for GNU/Linux
x for Mac OSX
c for CDROM

Stage 1 Boot:

************************************************
If I type "l" or simply let it continue on its own I see the following
************* From the screen ****************

Loading second stage bootstrap…

"little flashing folder icon" "? <-> Mac Logo"

************************************************
After a short period of time the screen flashes to solid white and nothing more happens.

In order to get Ubuntu to load I had to use the following commands
Mem=1024m video=ofonly

I read in these forums that I should use the same commands and maybe one that shuts off a splash screen when the system reaches the second boot stage. Problem is I never reach that stage. Once it says "Loading second boot stage" I no longer have control, that is no input works. Tab does not break in, etc.

I also have noticed that by formatting the drive in this way I am getting an error message when I boot into the Mac OS. The error says

Disk Insertion
The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer

I'm at a loss.
Thanks for the help
Rob
