This is no longer true. As of the last revision, it's a desktop GPU.

This is not true. The graphics card in the iMac is a mobility card:

The iMac can game decently, but no where even close to the graphics card in the mac pro, which is the 2nd best ATI card, behind the 5970.

I am by no means knocking the iMac's performance, it just doesn't have the power of the Mac Pro. The 6 quad mac pro, with the 5870 can go head to head with most alienware setups and other gaming rigs...that is if you are gaming on the windows side 😀

What? It's not even the same model number? Oh Apple... : facepalm :

Thanks, you learn something new every day...

Haha, not your fault they pretty much tricked everyone at the beginning.

Also I made my final choice for the 6 core, thanks everyone. Unfortunately it was kind of anti-climatic because apple wouldn't just give me an exchange toward a new mac pro, they said I had to get a refund and wait pretty much a week till the money is back in my account.

I am using my MP Quad Core (early 2009) in gaming under win7. All games run at very high setting, with no issues regarding Cpu power. the major issue is with the GPU. I will go for 5870 once its released. Anyway, if I were you I will go for 6 Cores. Then I will update HD, add more Ram, ....etc.

Don't be confused; Go ahead if you have the $$$. MP worths every penny.

It's pretty easy for people to spend your money, but a lot harder (at least for me) to spend my own. I say this b/c it seems like you will use this machine recreationally, i.e., not for work. So it really comes down to how much you can afford and want to spend. No computer is worth going into hock, at least not for personal use.

Sure the 6 core may be a better bang for the buck, but end of the day its more buck. You can justify it 6 ways to Sunday as long as you can pay for it. The 3.2 QC is no slouch even if it doesn't afford you much bragging rights.
