I am looking into possibly replacing the internal hard drive on my MBP (June '07 rev., 17-in, non-BTO). The problem is, I don't know if there's any limits on the storage space.

In short, can I replace my current internal drive with a 500GB internal drive (provided it fits) and still have it work?

Also, do you guys recommend 7200-rpm drives on MBPs? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm running a WD 7200 320GB in my 17" UB MBP. Quiet, and fast.

Also, I've had 7200 in my previous MBP (2.33) - same report.

The 500 should work fine.

First off, I would recommend searching around the forums. There are many threads concerning the same topic.

On the other hand, I have been doing alot of research myself and have found that the two top drives to choose from seem to be the seagate 7200.4 500GB and the WD Scorpio Blue 500GB. The only difference between the two is that the seagate is 7200 rpm while the WD is 5400. However, many tests show the WD drive coming out on top. Like I said just try searching around a bit.

You won't have a problem putting a 500GB hard drive in your mac, just make sure its a 2.5" drive rather than a 3.5".
