Thank you thank you!

I have vacation next week and then I will order (will be out of town and don't want them trying to deliver while I'm gone).

I will post pics when I get it all set up :)

I'm excited.

I may eventually wall mount on an articulating arm mount--bedroom= multiple viewing angles needed, haha!

I'm still crawling up to 500...it'll take me forever, I think...which sucks.

Oh well.

I think when I get my bonus in October, I may just buy a new HDTV for the living room and an XBox 360. (Bonus will be anywhere from 1300-1600)

Just gotta make sure I have enough money to pay for Christmas by then ;-) (I usually save a little each month for it)

I used my refund last year to buy my new tv. I already had the xbox 360. The new tv, blu ray, a couple movies, and a few extra cords really became a venture that I didn't fully take into account. Make sure you really shop around for that big tv and try to price match at best buy. They gave me a good deal price matching amazon and I think they even beat it by around 50 bucks and then I got to take it home same day instead of waiting in agony while it got shipped to me house. That was a glorious day. This year I get to spend my tax money on a new road bike. It's time to get in shape and spend less time in front of the tv.

Ahh, I understand...

The only thing that sucks is that the closest Best Buy to me is 60+ miles away.

But yeah, the price match idea is a good one. I am definitely going to go all out when I get the living room setup. It's just too much of a family room to not.

Right now we just have wii, gamecube (I know, redundant) and PS2 but I'm hoping for a more modern system soon. We really enjoy watching movies together as a family so it will be nice. But for now the free 46" projection is doing just fine :)

I have an extensive DVD collection but 0 blu-rays nor a player.
IDK...I may get just a few of my favorite or visually stunning movies in BR and see how that rolls.

I'd hate to see my DVDs go to waste :)

In that case I'd suggest a good upconverting blu ray player that processes the original 480i DVD content to 720 or 1080p. On a screen smaller than 42" it will still look really really good. Actually on those 36" TVs listed a few posts back you likely won't be able to tell the difference. Spending the extra $$$ for 1080p on a screen under 42" seems overkill to me. The only real 1080p content are blu rays and those only start benefiting the viewer at 42" and above. Xbox and most broadcast HD cable is not true 1080p.

When you buy your big TV, I'd suggest looking at plasmas since they offer larger sizes for the money. If your room isn't overly bright, they really have better blacks and motion with a more filmlike movie experience. If you game a lot, they have lower input lag. Samsung and Panny both have solid plasma tech coming out for 2011.

Do you guys know when manufacturers typically update their TVs?

I'll wait a month or two if I can get a smoking deal on an "old model"

Plasma's will still have a higher tendency to burn images in even though the tech has come a long way. It's just a characteristic of that type of display. I would stay away. The value and blacks aren't worth it to me.

I would be really careful with this. Any deal you find will most likely be leftovers from black friday and holiday sales. These TV's have slightly different model numbers, the same outer casing, but use a handful of cheaper components that allow the manufacturer to put it on the shelf at a lower price without taking a huge hit to their margins. I don't think there's as much of a product lifecycle with TV's. It's more of a matter of what's the new tech and how is each brand keeping up with development of said tech. Example, 3D is coming in big right now so everybody is trying to make it affordable to a degree.

Alright cool well thank you! I'm hoping I don't spend too much on vacation so I'll still have funds. Hah!

Thank you. I really can't wait to get it. It's gonna be sweet!
