I am trying to move my photos from my old Mac to my new one , tried migration assistant but this caused major problems on the new Mac and I had to completely erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS , (Catalina). I then copied the photos library to an external hard drive and connected this to the new Mac but every time I try to copy it from the external drive to the new Mac it just decides that I want to store and view my photos from the external drive , if I try to use import it just says their are no photos on the externL drive. HEEEELLLLLPPPPP please

1. Make sure Photos app is not running
2. Go to your pictures folder and if there is a Photos Library move it to the desktop.
3. Copy your photos library from your external drive ( the one from your old Mac) into the Pictures Folder on your new Mac (it should be empty following step 2).
4. Now Open Photos at the same time as pressing the Alt Key down.

5. Select 'Other Library' and browse to your pictures folder on your Mac where you copied your old Library to and select the library and press 'Open'.

6. Check that the library had your photos in it and you can then delete the blank library that you moved to the desktop if there was one in step 2.
