Hi, I was having a lot of trouble with Safari when it would constantly crash if I tried to do anything with the bookmarks bar so I deleted the plist and the app and went to apple.com to reinstall it and when I download Safari it turns into a file instead of an app. By default it wants to get opened by Excel. I tried redownloading it and it just shows as a file. I tried to download Firefox instead after I couldnt get that to work and that tries to get opened by Excel by default too. It won't download as an installable application just a file that wants to get opened by another program. I'm downloading through Internet Explorer now. Whats happening? Why is it not being read right or being translated wrong? Can someone help and tell me how to download and have my ibook recognize it as the application that it is? Help!

Ibook G4
OS 10.3.9

Many thanks!!

All I can think of is to check your IE preferences. Make sure it isn't trying to do something strange with the .dmg files that are being downloaded for Firefox and (I'm assuming) Safari.
