I have the standard 13" white macbook that i bought in 2007. recently it started freezing up (suddenly after my father used it... go figure) and the cursor would not move. I talked to applecare and they said i should try using the start up disks that came with the macbook. well i tried that the next day and my whole notebook is back to the day i opened it. I need help retrieving all my files, docs, and apps from before i completely erased everything. if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

---I'm typing this with the assumption that you reinstalled the Operating System:

If you didn't format the drive prior to the reinstall and selected "archive and install" then anything in you home directory should still be in you home directory since the install keeps all your documents.

If you did format before you reinstalled your Operating System, then your files are gone.

---Also, if you haven't reinstalled the operating system, then do so using archive and install, this should fix your issue and allow you to access your files

i just restarted the installation process again and it acted as if i was upgrading my operating system. I choose to install as archive this time just to see if it would work.

If you want to retrieve your files with the Install DVD you need to use Terminal.
