Hello,

I just got a 40$ Lombard that freezes during start-up, and if I can get it to work (waiting on the power cable since the battery is dead) I'd like to resuscitate it. I'd like to know what my options are as far as the upgrades that are still available today.

Also, would a Pismo be significantly better from an upgradability POV (in 2011)?

Thanks!

Loa

Pismo has FireWire, faster CPU, faster memory bus, better GPU and optional internal Airport Wifi. It also can be upgraded to 1GB of RAM, instead of a max of 512MB. Its max OS is 10.4 Tiger, instead of 10.3 Panther - 10.4 being much preferred over Panther.

Freezing during startup could be hw or sw. Try reseating the RAM modules. If you have a startup disc (CD/DVD), try booting off that - if successful, it points to a possible HD problem. You can run Disk Utility from the disc and see if there's a problem and possibly repair it.

The Pismo is a really well built machine, I recommend it as a web surfing machine, with 512MB RAM in it, Panther runs great.

Hello,

Thanks for the info. I was really looking for a Pismo, but at 40$ shipped to my door, the maybe-broken Lombard (who is in excellent physical shape) was too good a deal to pass up.

But my question was this: how upgradeable are these machines? Better optical drive, better CPUs...

Thanks
