Hello - I'd really appreciate some guidance.

I have a Mac Pro 2. 2.66 GHz Dual-Core with 2GB 667 MHz DDr FB-DIMM memory.

These are in 4 slots of 512 and EEC is enabled (whatever that means)

I have used the crucial scanner that tells me I need to spend £100 and get EEC and Buffered RAM, but I have no idea if this is good / bad / true?

Other shops have no guide and some say mixing the wrong memory will hurt my Mac.

Any help would be really appreciated :)

Thanks.

The memory the crucial scanner tells you you need is correct. You can mix it with what you currently have.

You can order from OWC in the UK, it'll be slightly cheaper even when you add on VAT and shipping. Though you may feel it worth the £20-£30 more to stay with a UK supplier.

If you don't mind buying used you can find it on eBay much cheaper.

Most will list it as FB-DIMM 667MHz and many will say for Mac Pro. Just search Mac Pro FB-DIMM 667 and you should find plenty of offers.

You need to buy it in pairs though, but you will most likely find it all sold in pairs.

Come back and tell us what you end up buying and we can tell you how to configure the memory for best performance.
