Hey guys, I recently got a 1.5 tb wd external drive and want to backup with it.

What I can't figure out is if you can hook up the external drive via usb to our home pc, and then backup to that drive from my macbook wirelessly.

I don't think it can be done so my alternative is to make 2 partition. 1 being the size of my macbook hard drive and 1 with the rest available. Then i would backup my macbook once a week wired to the 1 partition. Then when I'm not backing up, i would have it connected to my pc so i can stream tv shows/movies to all of my devices.

Thanks for the help everyone :)

Easy, just partition it. Then when you first start Time Machine it will format one of them to the right format and name it whatever you want, I name mine Time Machine which I think is default.

After this, it will back up every hour or the next time you plug it in if that's longer than 1 hour.

I do exactly the same thing, I have 1 storage partition and 1 backup partition

    Easy as
