I've installed Matlab 7.0.4 on my Mac and whenever I open Matlab, the X11 terminal comes up and I can only run Matlab through xterm. Instead of working on matlab through xterm, I'd like to run Matlab with the Matlab interface. Any ideas what I should do?

Thanks for your help,
Bryan

Hmm, after X11 loads the MatLab editor and interface should start up. Do you get the MatLab splash screen?

You have to run X11 to get MatLab going.

Yes, the matlab splash screen comes up but then goes away. After that the only thing that comes up is the xterm, and the matlab icon bounces for 30 seconds after that.

You know it was always finicky for me with getting MatLab started sometimes after the splash screen it'd take anywhere from 30seconds to 5 minutes before finally the editor would open up. Have you tried waiting it out?

I've found with 2007aR14 MatLab (in Leopard) that this finally doesn't happen anymore, it starts right up. But in Tiger, I never really knew when the damn thing would finally load. Sorry I can't be more specific on helping you.

Go to a forum and hit "New Thread". This really is inappropriate to ask, there are FAQ's and Help menus all over the place for this sort of thing.

I had trouble getting Matlab to work under Tiger as well... so I just booted Windows in Fusion and ran it through there.... thank god I already had a copy from the previous year... otherwise I would have been screwed.

Maybe this will help? When I execute Matlab through xterm, this is the message I get:

/Applications/MATLAB704/bin/matlab

So is there a java problem I'm having?

thanks for the help! I find out that the reason is that the version of matlab I'm using is too old and is not really compatible with intel based macs....
