A friend of mine bought a new macbook pro from an apple store recently and is trying to install applications, but somebody at the store set up his account and didn't give him the password for his own account. Now he doesn't even have administrator privileges on his own computer.

My question is, has anybody else had this problem, and is there a default password that Apple uses when they set up an account for somebody?

or is there a way to reset his password?

He should be able to boot from his grey OS DVD and use the disk utility to reset the password to get into the account.

Will probably try this if we can't find a solution right now. At the moment, we unfortunately don't have access to the OS DVD.

Has he tried leaving it blank, i.e. no password?

Tried that, said it was incorrect.
