You'd have to find a away to get that on the outside of the dome. The current Airport and Bluetooth antennas end between the white plastic dome and the internal metal shell. They do not go into the neck or screen.

Just an update...

I received the replacement wifi yesterday. I should get the PRAM battery on last Wednesday (yeah, I know it's Friday, I'm going by what USPS says). In actuality I'm thinking it'll get here on Saturday. Wednesday I should get some Kapton tape from Amazon. I only need a few strips but I'm sure I can use it later on down the road.

I'm off next Thursday so I might put everything back together then.

Any recommendations on purchasing a new HDD, while it's all opened? Macsales has a WD 250 GB 7200 RPM for $40. The drive currently in there is the original, I think 160 GB. I'm fine on space but there is considerable lag when opening apps.

Nearly any PATA drive will be an improvement. If you can, put a SSD in there. Either a PATA SSD or a SATA SSD with an adapter.

I thought of going SSD. Since the iMac isn't a full time machine and mainly for me to play around with I can't justify that expense to storage since basically the performance wouldn't be much faster when considering PATA bandwidth.

I may pick up a QS from Criagslist. It says "There is one problem with it... the chassis cooling fan is rubbing against the enclosure and making loud noise. I have disconnected the fan and have not experienced any heat issues. The power supply fan and the CPU fan are working normally." $35. 933 MHz, 40 GB, 1 GB RAM. I was wanting one with either a more powerful processor or less (to run OS 9) but $35 seems like a great deal. I'm going to make sure I can replace that fan inexpensively first.

I just realized that now that I have the wifi extension I can put the logic board back in place on the bottom piece. There are two plastic clips that hold the extension in place, one of which has come loose. I'm guessing double sided tape would work?

Also, on the display cable, would using foam strips work to hold it down? The ones on there are not sticky at all. I think I read to use double sided tape but that seems to be too thin.

The WiFi antenna clip can be held on with double sided tape. The black plastic cover that goes on top of the LVDS cable can be discarded. It was not present on earlier G4 iMac models.

Need help troubleshooting wifi/bluetooth on iMac G4

Oh, great! I was worried the cable would wiggle out. I couldn't remember how much force was required to unplug it when I took everything apart.

Edit: found the same HDD on Amazon for $25. I'm definitely going to pick that up.

Alright, HDD and RAM should be in in a few days. I've started putting everything back together but wanted y'all's opinion.

Should I install the Bluetooth board? I don't have the antenna and would have to tear everything apart to install it if I ever find one. I don't think I can use the card for anything else if I keep it out and they don't seem to sell for much on eBay.

Is there anything I can do or test before putting it all back together? I'd hate to do that and find out something's not working properly.

I think I'm just getting anxious waiting for my new stuff to get here.

Bottom panel is all out back together. Top portion is cleaned up. It should all be ready by next Wednesday.

Alright! I got everything cleaned up, upgraded, and put back together. And it looks like it's working! I should be asleep though...

Alright, never mind. Seems something's not right. I'm getting, I think, unaligned memory access error messages. Sometimes the screen will turn on, sometimes it's just black.

I read a thread around here that they left it overnight and it worked in the morning. Something about charging or whatever, so I'll try that.

I did do a bit of research on the memory thing. Some say the RAM might need just reseating. If that's the case I'm hoping it's the SO-DIMM. It's a pain taking this thing apart. I'm worried I'm going to crush some wires or forget to put thermal paste or plug something in.

I opened it back up. The Airport Extreme card and Superdrive were pretty warm. The CPU wasn't though, which is odd. The thermal paste looks like it was even spread so I don't think that's an issue.

And it looks like I messed up my new wifi extension cable. It looks like when it's all put together it gets pressed up next to a screw hole. I made very sure to keep it away from everything but I guess that final closing part moved it over. Rats.

I think I'll just do without wifi and bluetooth. Maybe once I get it running I'll just sell it. I really don't feel like messing with it anymore. Maybe I'm just tired.
