Hi all, wife took over my old thunderbolt monitor so now I have to get a new one. Which one of these would you pick and why? (or if you have other suggestions)

I'm thinking maybe the monitor could eventually be used for PS5 gaming (when I get it) but it's not a must, the monitor is primarily still for work hooking up to my 16" MBP. I know those 2 are very different (ultra wide VS none) so curious to see what people think, I've never used Ultrawide before and the last monitor experience was some 24" crappy Samsung that I bought and returned to get the thunderbolt instead, because the picture was just so much clearer on the TB.

Thanks! : )

PlayStation5 does not currently support 1440p video output. This is not a hardware issue, this is strictly Sony not implementing it in software. This is not some sort of difficulty in scaling since the PS5 officially supports 720p video; 1440p video would be simple linear doubling (2x on each axis).

The PS5 is using very similar custom AMD SoCs to those in the newly released Xbox consoles (X & S); both new Xbox consoles supported 1440p at launch. Note that the previous generation Xbox console received 1440p support mid-life.

It is possible that Sony might add 1440p QHD video support to the PS5 in the future however you would be better off buying the 4K LG monitor at this point given your intention to connect a PS5 to it. There are claims of rumors of Sony mulling 1440p support on various gaming sites but that's no guarantee it will happen.

Thanks Erehy!! So if I tried to use PS5 on the 1440p monitor will it A) just have huge black bars on either side or B) literally nothing will show up? But yeah I went to see how big a 32" monitor is..and it seems plenty huge already being on a desk instead of being used as a TV. So maybe I will just get the LG one, it's cheaper anyway thank you!

Neither A) nor B).

I believe PS5 connected to a QHD monitor will output 1080p which will be upscaled to 1440p by the monitor's circuitry. Please confirm this with other verified sources.

I have seen this topic covered repeatedly at various gaming sites. Try an Internet search for "Playstation 5 1440p" and I'm sure the topic will be covered all over the place (PC Gamer, Tom's Hardware, etc.).

I know nothing about gaming, but this kind of boggles my mind given I know 1440p is popular in the (non-console) gaming community. I get that years ago the argument could be made that QHD was never adopted as a television resolution, but the line between monitors and TVs seem less distinct today than in the future since so many people don't have traditional cable and may use computer displays as their "television".
