Not sure if I should put this in hardware or software....

I have an external drive seagate 320gb freeagent connected to my iMac via USB.

I have have spent a ton of time trying to get this to work with time machine. I've tried all kinds of fixes and nothing seems to work.

I tried to make a backup using Carbon Copy Cloner onto the drive but it failed as well.

I'm starting to wonder if it is the drive that has a problem. I used disk utilities to verify and repair the drive and there were no problems.

Is there any free software out there that I could use to perform something like scandisk found in windows to check the drive for errors?

Thanks!

Just covering bases here, you DID format the drive to be usable on you mac, didn't you? They generally come formatted for windows, and need to be reformatted for mac using disk utility.
