I have a new IMAC 20 inch. I am trying to read a compact flash card with a CF card reader usb 2.0 If I plug in the reader, with card, NOTHING If I plug in the reader and then insert the card, still NOTHING. What am I doing wrong? Thanks a bunch.
Providing you're waiting long enough (can take maybe 30 seconds on my old iBook), you're doing nothing wrong. The card should show up as a drive on your desktop, and, if your machine is set up that way, iPhoto should launch wanting to suck photos off the card. If the card is not mounting to your desktop at all, you should check that the card does work and does contain data (put it back in your camera, I guess), and check that your USB port works. Also check that the card reader works by testing with another computer, if possible.
the card reader worked fine a couple of weeks ago in a windows comp. it has sat and done nothing until I tried to use it in this new mac. The card, has sounds on it so I am not sure what program would try to launch it. thanks
Like thegilly said, it would be a good idea to verify it works on other computers. You should be able to browse a mounted drive and see all the files. You may want to check your finder prefs to make sure you can see it when it gets mounted. In prefs you can set what you see; your hard drive, CD's, DVD's, usb drives, etc.
Good one. I totally forgot about verifying the port! As for the prefs, dang it, I can't remember exactly and I'm not in front of a mac right now. Probably under Finder-Preferences. If not there then go into system prefs-appearance but look at Finder-Prefs first.
Click on Finder (top left on the top bar) Select Preferences Click General. Make sure that the items are checked
I verified that the usb port is working by plugging my mouse into it. I tried going into finder to try but now my text size is all screwed up and the graffics do not fit the entire screen. I have 2 thick black lines on both sides of the screen where the viewing window does not go. kinda makes me mad!
Use Disk Utility under Utilities to Verify Disk Permissions. Check that all your software is up to date. See if that helps. If you still can't see the card reader, try another brand.
Did you try looking on the manufacturers web site? 1. Check the support/FAQs 2. Make sure drivers are updated/correct
I bought a new card reader that is MAC compatible and it works, kind of. The info I am trying to look at from the card reader is a sound and print utility. What happens is the card has sounds on it, and the program that is on that same card has a screen that allows me to move sounds into banks for use in a device. After the sounds are moved into the banks that I want it is sposed to print out the bank lay out. When The card is read I can see all the sounds but cannot get to the bank and printing utility. I can't figure out how to open in (if it even will on MAC) thanks for all the help.
