Hey guys
Just bought a 24" cinema display from ebay, plugged it in and got this weird grey/black area in the bottom left corner of the screen.. any ideas??

It came with AppleCare so I can take it to the store if need be but would rather not re-box it all up! :)

Thanks

Yeah thought that sorry..!

Err... send it back mis-sold!

I've seen people punting these on eBay, the Genius Bar won't touch this with a barge pole.

Environmental Damage or something along those lines, they call it.

I'm waiting for a reply from the seller on this.

Any idea what it is?

I wouldn't be surprised if you're waiting a long time. You should probably ask yourself why the seller hadn't already taken it to be repaired if he had Applecare on it

My guess would be that Apple said no.

Hopefully I'm incorrect.

Definitely return it!

That could be pressure damage from a knock or a fall, or any number of things. AppleCare are highly unlikely to cover it.

Probably smoke or dust. I used to have one and unless you're in a clean room dust works its way between the LCD and the backlight. I've read where people have taken it apart themselves and cleaned it but if it were under warranty I'd try that first. Most likely the previous owner was a smoker and did so while using it.

Dust is spots behind the glass, not huge smudge marks up the side of the screen. Smoke is possible.

Same thing happened to me, am assuming you paid via paypal so eBay will side with you. Here's what I did.

Send seller another email only through the eBay system with links to pictures of the issue

Open an item not a described dispute

Schedule a visit to the genius bar and have them document the issue, keep a copy of this report to send to eBay, sooner the better

The only option you should take is full refund, i wouldn't keep this display under any circumstances

Good luck

Yep paid via PayPal - email already sent through eBay asking about the problem - I'll send another with pics.

I'll get a GB appointment ASAP.

Thanks for the advice!

Did it ship in the original box? This could be a pressure mark from poor shipping...

Yeah had everything.. Original polystyrene, cables, manual and felt cover around the display in the original box... The box was wrapped in black bin bags
