Got a MBP a yr ago, got rid of bootcamp partition thinking I'd never use it but now I need to install windows. I bought Windows 7, bootcamp assistant wouldn't allow me to get past 1st step so I made a partition thru disc utility to put it in but I couldn't figure out how to do that. I then downloaded a free trial, (which ends tomorrow) of Paralles 7 and installed it that way. Is there anyone who can help me transfer it to my partition so that I don't have to pay for Paralles to keep windows? Appreciate the help. Thanks alot.:(:(:(

re: Windows 7

if you can't get it to work in bootcamp (which I'm not sure why you can't)
then you could create a partition with disk utility

then boot a gparted live cd use the gui partition program to convert said partition to ntfs format

and use the gdisk command line utility (CAREFUL)
to convert the partition map to hybrid

in your hybrid partition map you want the boot partition at the beginning (gdisk will offer to make this for you)
and the ntfs partition in the hybrid mbr

after writing the changes you can reboot while holding the alt key and choose your windows 7 disk (not efi, as this won't work by default)
and install as normal

http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/ has more about gdisk

but you might try downloading bootcamp, and if you are on os x lion then boot camp assistant is already installed (its in utilities)

try free trial of Fusion & transfer virtual machine, might be a much easier solution, if you like Fusion, than pay the $50 for a legit license
