Need Help with my Mac Pro Raid Card

I have Mac pro Raid Card that only allows me to raid drives at 2.2 TB
Model A1228
Is there an update for it?
I need to Raid two 3tb drives

With the card yes you're stuck.

You could remove the card. Unplug the raid card lead from sled cable then sled plug into logic board. The left fans will have to come out kinda job.

Use the sleds for data drives and go PCIe SSD boot.

With the card plug in can I use any drives as a single drive above 2.2tb? and keep raid at 2.2 only?

Nope 2.2tb is physical card limit for drives on card. The raid card has the sled SATA connector cable bypassed through it to logic board. Removing it and connecting sleds direct you can use over 2.2tb logic board SATA supports larger disks. Use software raid or another card.

I removed the card
as I was OK to use raid card to raid 2 drives at 2.2 but i wanted to use other drives at full capacity
Software raid is horrible
So no raid for me

I have an Areca 1880ix-12 RAID card in my 4,1 --> 5,1 Mac Pro, and it works great with 4TB HDDs, for the record.

Of course, it also can use up to 4GB of cache memory, does other levels of RAID such as 3, 5, 6, 30, 50, 60, and it's a much faster x8 lane card that can handle 16 disks for about the same price as the Apple Pro RAID card... but that's another story.
