A relative of mine opened an email from a customer whose email was apparently hacked and she clinked the link thinking it was a document about an order. What can she do? She is running OS X lion I believe. The soonest I can check out the mac is tomorrow.

    Thanks

Have her download, install, and run the free Malwarebytes.

As CoastalOR said install and run Malwarebytes.
And you can double check with ClamXav, if you want. There is a fully functional trial version. Both software are on demand.

Ok I'm at the computer and I can't run malware bytes because the Mac is on 10.7.5 and malware Bytes requires 10.8 .. I can't update the computer because it runs a program that isn't compatible with el captain .. What options do I have for scanning for malware

You can contact thomasareed (author of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac), maybe he can provide an earlier version of the app that is compatible with your OS.

Here is a link to MalwareBytes support that has a link to a older version that will work on 10.7.
