Hi,

my 2009 MBP does restart almost every hour and I get this report, but cannot decipher it.

Can anyone provide pointers?

It's probably the anti-piracy software (Pace - www.paceap.com) used with the software working with the Digidesign hardware you have?

There are multiple posts on the web about this.

You might want to see if there's a newer version (the kernel extension shows that the kernel extension is probably meant for Snow Leopard) of the Pace software (one that works with Yosemite which is what you have). That may also require updating the software itself that uses Pace.

If you can run in safe mode, this is most likely the issue. (You probably can't run whatever software that relies on Pace and the Digidesign hardware in safe mode.)
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

You can search on this issue by using "com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard kernel panic" plus perhaps "digidesign" or the software name that relies on the Pace software.

Thank you. I was unsure about Pace, as I know it from my avid days, and am flabbergasted what it does on the Mac after two clean installs.

Thanks again for the detailed reply, will report back once I know more.

Cannot find the Pace kext, using Finder to look for system and hidden files.

As Yosemite was installed clean just a few days ago and no Avid or Digidesign programs have been installed, I am flabbergasted.

Using Terminal, you can use the following to find the location of the file:

kextfind -b com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard

kextfind -b com.digidesign.iokit.DigiDal

If you're looking to delete the kext, it may be better to unload them for now.

http://osxdaily.com/2015/06/24/load-unload-kernel-extensions-mac-os-x/

Something happened in your recent Yosemite that installed both of these extensions or it wasn't a truly clean install.

Thanks. Got Pace kext deleted, MBP still Kernel Panicking.

This is the latest report, cannot get my head around the hexadecimal numbers after backtrace.

Try running in safe mode as mentioned in post #2. If you don't get a kernel panic, my guess is that there's a launch daemon causing a problem. You can use EtreCheck (running in safe mode) to find out what that is. If you need help with that, post the results (EtreCheck will remove personalized data).
https://etrecheck.com/

If you get a kernel panic in safe mode, there could be a hardware issue. You should try disconnect any devices you have connected to your computer and see if that helps.

Thank you for the continued help. Will look at both and report back.

Good night from Portugal.

Hi.

It took some time, was sick and couldn't be bothered to fix the older Mac.

Now I ran EtreCheck without and with Safe Mode, and the Pace kext is still listed but I cannot find it via Finder in Safe Mode (and I want to run the Mac in Safe Mode and see how long it does take to restart).

I find it curious, that there are Digidesign and Pace folders in the /Library/Startup Items folders, but in System Preferences / Login Items there are no such things visible.

Maybe once the Mac runs longer in Safe Mode than without, I might just delete those folders. Really strange how they come to be after a clean install without any Avid or Digidesign products installed.

UPDATE: Since that MBP is in use by my brother and he also has an older iMac, where Avid once was installed upon and he used the Time Machine backup of that iMac, though the restarts happened before that too, I can see the Avid Utilities folder in Utilities. Probably time for another clean install.

Here is the report without Safe Mode:

Also just saw, that there is a Digidesign Audio Core plugin installed. How I don't know, as my brother does not use a Digidesign product.

treekram, thanks for your help. Having had to diagnose the problem that way helped me find the culprit, though only a clean install did help.

The source of the problem was the iMac time machine backup being restored to the MBP. Why the digidesign and Avid **** don’t make problems on the iMac but on the MBP I don’t know, but as the MBP works for now, I don’t care as much.

Thanks again.

Have a good week.
