Hi All--I had a virus in my Safari, and tried to re-install it. Of course, what I installed replaced my version BUT after the fact I found out it was Maverick which my OS can't use. I cannot find a re-install for OS 10.7.5 anywhere, and since I bought my Mac used, I didn't get the install disks with it. (Bummer! That would have fixed everything.) I'm pretty sure I had Safari 6, and Maverick is 7. Anyone know how I can re-acquire the right version?
Thanks.

It sounds like you landed on a site that installed some sort of malware. Check under Purchases to see if you have the ability to re-download Lion (OS X 10.7.5 = Lion).

If your computer supports it, you may have the ability to install Yosemite - which I'd recommend. Do a clean install though.

You're computer may not be able to do this but restart your computer and when you hear the Chime sound press and hold command and R until you see the apple logo (for good measure I'd keep holding them for a few additional seconds).

If your computer is compatible it'll load into the recovery menu where you can either reinstall your OS, do some disk utility actions, and maybe even terminal commands (this is off the top of my head).

I just did a fresh install on my late 2010 MacBook using this method and using disk utility to wipe the HDD then installing however you may not need to wipe the HDD. I did it because I'm running a beta but hopefully this helps.

malware on Safari

Thanks---I tried the control R startup, but the predicted menu didn't come up---my computer "blinked" once and gave me just my wallpaper. I wish I had the install disk, but I bought this on eBay (really good price) and it was absolutely perfect until the malware. A warning comes up (with freezing of all functions,) and a voice tells me to "call this number" to rid myself of the problem. I'm sure that's the place that gave me the problem in the first place!
